Technology
PVConnect™ uses the three-box model advocated by the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA).
The model comprises these three elements:
- Digital media server - for storing multimedia content
- Control point - detects servers and allows users to browse multimedia content and choose a renderer
- Renderer - presents the multimedia content
Mobile operators, mobile phone manufacturers and consumer electronic device manufacturers can choose to implement any combination of these components. For example, a mobile phone could be a server, renderer and control point. A set-top box could be a control point or a control point and server.
PVConnect works with hundreds of Universal Plug-and-Play (UPnP) devices, and also adapts to non-DLNA devices such as Xbox 360™ and Sony PlayStation® Portable. PVConnect also integrates with popular services such as iTunes®.
PVConnect is more resource efficient than any other DLNA-certified software on the market-lower code size, memory consumption and CPU usage. PVConnect is ideal for products with low power consumption requirements. Its stable code base has been tested rigorously at DLNA plugfests since their inception by the DLNA in 2004.
